Indian Shia, Sunni groups united in protest against Israeli bombing in Lebanon

Several Shia as well as Sunni organisations in India condemned Israel’s ongoing airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and held protests in different parts of the country.
In Lucknow, thousands of Shia Muslims under the banner of Anjuman-E-Haideri took out a procession against Israeli aggression and the killing of Hassan Nasrallah, the chief of Iran-backed militant outfit Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The protesters chanted slogans of “Netanyahu murdabad” and burned the posters of the the Israeli Prime Minister.

In Delhi, Sunni Muslim organisations such as the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind condemned the attack on Beirut, calling it a “cowardly aggression”.
Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of the Jamaat-e-Islami HInd, said, “We strongly condemn Israel for carrying out the indiscriminate and barbaric air strikes on the Lebanese city of Beirut, killing more than 40 people including the Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasarallah. We extend our deepest condolences, sympathy and unwavering solidarity to the people of Lebanon and all those who are resisting the illegal occupation of Palestine and other sovereign territories by the apartheid and colonised regime of Israel. This cowardly aggression constitutes a massacre and a heinous crime.”
A prayer and condolence meeting for Nasrallah and other Hezbolloah officials was organised at the India Islamic Culture Centre in Delhi on Monday evening. The Ambassadors of Lebanon and Iran in India were invited to this gathering.
A candle march was organised on Monday evening by Shia Muslim organisations in the Kashmere Gate area in Delhi.
“The Shia Muslims of India consider Israel’s attack on Lebanon and Hassan Nasrallah as a terror attack. He is a shaheed (martyr). He was fighting for Palestine, the Shia consider him a hero for the people of Lebanon,” said Syed Bahadur Abbas Naqvi, general secretary of Anjuman-e-Haidri, India’s biggest Shia Muslim organisation.
“The two-nation solution is the stand of India. Muslim clerics of India have appealed that the Indian government should intervene and stop such attacks. Organisations like Majlis-e-Ulema-I-Hind have also concerned prayers for Nasrallah,” he added.
On Sunday, protests were witnessed with people taking out a march holding posters of Nasrallah and condemning Israel’s actions.
Israel has intensified its attack on militant groups part of Shia-majority Iran’s ‘Axis of Resistance’. The Jewish nation has eliminated several of the top ranking officials of Hezbollah, including the group’s chief, Hassan Nasrallah.
Israel is also planning a limited ground operation in Lebanon, the Jewish nation has informed the US, the Washington Post reported.
